Back to Training

I had a couple of days rest and went out for a 4 mile easy run in 31 mins on Wed which felt really good. I also wore my Newton shoes which I have neglected recently due to racing. I've probably done about 30 miles in them so its still early days, I have been running in Saucony Grid Fastwich 4 trainers for some time now though and mostly on my toes. I've done 2 marathons in the Fastwich and find them much easier on my legs as they encourage more forefoot running resulting in less impact on the knees. They do wear out quickly though and the Newton's get good reviews hence the change over.

I did another 6 mile easy in 43:24 yesterday which also felt good and I'm feeling much better post run too so hopefully my recovery is happening although I will ease back into things gently. This was also in the Newtons and although my calves still get a little sore they aren't too bad and they recover quickly. As I gradually build up the miles hopefully this will improve along with my technique.

I'm resting today then its the park 5k tomorrow and I've got the Chariots of Fire relay race on Sunday, a fast 1.7 mile. The race follows in the footsteps of the famous film, through the streets and colleges of Cambridge. Individuals from a team of 4 each run the 1.7 miles and all the times are added together for a complete time. In 2009 we won the Vets and came 4th overall but I'm cooking dinner for someone special tomorrow and pretty sure I'll have to much to drink so the race should be interesting to say the least.
